I close both locks below the window.
I close both blinds and turn away.
Sometimes solutions aren't so simple.
Sometimes goodbye's the only way, oh.
I close both blinds and turn away.
Sometimes solutions aren't so simple.
Sometimes goodbye's the only way, oh.
I'm twenty five and making the biggest move of my life. What's it going to be like out there? I won't have any friends
"Jackie, you are insane! It's like rape city out there in Vegas. Why don't you just stay in Miami? All your friends and family are here. Come on!" A blonde pleaded as she stood in the doorway and looked on as a brunette packed her bathroom accessories. "Plus it's such a long trip. What're you gonna do when you need a friend?" She asked with a pout and hugged a towel to her tan skin.
"That's why they have phones Julie." The brunette said as she rose to her feet and pulled the towel from her friends grip. "I won't have a personal life anyway, I'm a CSI remember? And rape city? Come on, like Miami is any better. You have any idea how many cases I've worked involving rape?" She said and pointed at the girl with a towel before she packed it in a box with her other towels. She heard her friend give an irritable sigh and click her heel on the tile floor irritably. She knew everyone wanted her to stay, but she'd gotten an offer from Gil Grissom to work in Vegas and she felt it was time for a move. She'd been working under Horatio Caine for two years without complaint. She had nothing wrong with any of them and she loved working with everyone, but her heart told her it was time to go. She was sad to leave, but the prospect of a new life made her salivate.
"What about that cutie at work? What's he thinking about you running off to get killed in Las Vegas?" Julie asked with a raised brow and started to help her friend pack. Jackie had to laugh at that as she knew she was talking about Delco. Sure they'd flirted a little, but the blonde had never really had a thing for him. She hadn't really had a thing for anyone for a long time. Work seemed to do that to her. Shaking her head she raised her brown eyes to scan Julie's face.
"You can have him, girl. He just doesn't do it for me." She said and picked up her box of packed things before brushing past her friend and shutting off the bathroom light. She set the box down next to her dozens of others and placed her hands on her hips. She straightened her back and rose to her full height of 5' 8" as she scanned the barren apartment bedroom. The bed that'd been furnished with the apartment was stripped of bedding and was the only thing left in the room. She sighed heavily as she started to have her doubts on her decision. No, you said yes and have to go now.
"That's it then?" Julie asked with tears forming at the corner of her eyes. Jackie turned around and looked at her friend, biting her lip. She nodded and felt her own eyes starting to water. It was going to be hard leaving everything she’d ever known, but there was no turning back now. She walked towards her friend and pulled her into a goodbye embrace. Julie broke down and started to cry into her friends shoulder.
"It's alright. I'll be back to visit." Jackie assured her and tried to keep her own crying under control. Finally she stepped away from her friend and ran a hand through her blonde hair. Nodding she grabbed a box of things and her friend did the same. They took the boxes to the moving van one by one until the last of them were inside and the door was latched. The blonde turned to her friend and embraced her again, knowing it may be the last time for a long time. "I'll call when I land okay? Hey, no crying alright. I'm still going to be around. I'll call you if I find some cute guys." She laughed and thankfully Julie did the same. Jackie smiled at her friend before she got in her rental and started for the airport.
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you.
And the shadow of the day,
Will embrace the world in gray,
And the sun will set for you...
The sun will set for you.
And the shadow of the day,
Will embrace the world in gray,
And the sun will set for you...
Jackie stepped through the front doors of Las Vegas Crime Lab and felt out of place almost immediately. She was wearing Miami clothes, bright colors and skin showing. She bit her lip and ran her hands over her bare tan arms feeling subconscious. The last thing she had wanted was to stick out like a sore thumb on her first day of work. Shaking her head she pulled at the bottom of her black and purple tank, trying to cover her stomach better. Her low rider jeans didn't help in her struggles either. Growling she gave up and just started forward to find her boss.
"Hey can you tell me..." She started to ask a person as they passed but they ignored her. Vegas can be a rude city. she grumbled as she had gotten much the same response when she'd checked into her hotel last night. Miami people were known to be snobs sometimes but she couldn't fathom what was stuck up the asses of the people in Vegas. She felt like her work environment wouldn't be improving from that either. "I'm Jacklena Dunham and I'm looking for Gil Grissom's office..." She tried again but got the same response.
"What the hell is wrong with people around here?" She wondered aloud as she peeked around hoping to find her boss' office. Maybe this had been a mistake. Giving up for a moment she leaned against the glass of what appeared to be the testing lab and sighed heavily. She rested her head against the glass and closed her eyes. What was she doing there? She'd given up a nice job in Miami to come all the way out here and do the same thing where this time she didn't know anyone and felt more vulnerable than ever.
In cards and flowers on your window,
Your friends all plead for you to stay.
Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple.
Sometimes goodbye's the only way, oh.

Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple.
Sometimes goodbye's the only way, oh.
